Voting Question: How do I get my 22 yr old friend to mature without hurting her feelings? MOM AND DAD OPINION PLS?
My friend is 22 and she still acts like a child!
I think she’s a classic case of arrested development, she lived a very, very sheltered life and wouldn’t even know how to take care of herself if she had to!
She does the baby talk sometimes and it creeps me out.
She only recently went grocery shopping for herself ( first and last time it seems)
she has no money management skills
She uses her mom yelling at her as an excuse to not know how to handle herself in a situation where she may be reprimanded, or asked to do things. She says her mom gave her a complex.
at her age I feel that’s unacceptable. I’VE learned to deal with my own complex, shouldn’t she?
She’s always broke BECAUSE of her money management or lack there of
She totes weird possessions around ie books, binders, hand held game systems, etc even when she KNOWS she wont get a chance to use them
She reads TEEN Magazine. ( and enjoys them) :-|
I don’t think it’s healthy to be so under developed mentally, socially, and emotionally.
I don’t want to CHANGE the quirky parts of her, I just want her to be able to function on the same plain as a healthy 22 yr old and be able to make friends and be okay in a social situation where she is required to be courteous.
I’m also 22 and I think I’m mature for my age. I don’t know if i’m being too critical but she works with me and all the girls at work also love her to death but we ALL feel the same way about her.
My boy friend’s mom says I should maybe talk to her one on one and be gentle and choose the right words.
I’m just afraid that when I approach her that she will see it as a personal attack or feel it is malicious.
Do you think I should talk to her about growing as a person for HER OWN benefit? or should I just drop it?
Surely someone knows of a self help book I can use! Maybe a Dr. Laura
When I say she totes books around I meant she brings multiple books because she rewrites them. AT WORK, and THAT has proved problematic because shes no longer working hard and now just slacking off. She brings about 4 books, 2 binders, her psp, about 3 magazines all of which we are not allowed to bring to work, she KNOWS this, and we have talked to her ABOUT THAT VERY THING but shes ignored it.
I don’t think I just want her to be molded in MY image or how I think she should be I just think she needs to help HERSELF
