Open Question: Am I entitled to any benefits?
I am a 19 year old female studying full time in Scotland. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in November of last year in my first year of University. I had trouble at university as I struggled with agoraphobia and sorting out medications that suited so I took some time out. I returned to University the next year, but am still struggling. I am passionate about learning and don’t want to stop, although I feel that at the moment, studying full-time at a University which is very demanding is not helping my mental health, as I’m still working through medications and CBT with my psychiatrist.
I’ve been contemplating trying out a course at the Open University, perhaps something in Creative Writing, which I am passionate about. However, I am worried that I will be unable to support myself, as I do not think the student loans apply to the Open University. I am reluctant to move back in with my mother and would like to stay in the city – close to my psych, my friends, etc – and was wondering if there are any benefits (housing, disabilities, etc.) that I may be entitled to – as a student, someone under 21, with someone with my mental health – that could support me throughout my studies?
I may look into getting a job if the workload is not too much, though I worry that because of the state of my mental health and the problems it often presents, I may not be able to support myself with a job just yet.
Does anyone know of any financial assistance that may be available to someone in my position, that could help me rent/pay bills etc through the course of my studies? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Open Question: Advice Please On What This Wording Means? (Tax Question)?
*Before I ask can I stress that I am literate-I just cannot understand what they want me to do*
I was advised sometime ago by a financial advisor that whilst I am not working at the moment I should not pay tax on my savings. And need to advise the bank that have dealings with my savings.
So I rang up the bank-and sent me this form to fill in.
I filled it in. And this was the reply!
Tax Liability
Thank you for your letter.
We will no longer pay tax on your behalf. Please make sure that you have made the necessary arrangements for any tax liability on these accounts directly with the Inland Revenue.
Can anyone advise what this means/what I have to do?
Many thanks
I am UK based
Open Question: Not enough money in financial aid package?
I just received my financial aid package from the school I am planning on attending. I only qualify for an unsubsidized Stafford loan for $3,500.00. This is not enough, it leaves about a $15,000.00 gap. What can I do to get more money. I got great grades last year. This year I overloaded on college courses while in high school so my GPA went down quite a bit. From a 91 average to maybe an 82. I know that will probably wash away any scholarship hopes. Please offer any advice.
