Open Question: I received Tax Top 203 on “Where’s my Refund” Anyone else receive this message? Is it a generic message?
I am expecting my tax return any day now- I check “Where’s my Refund” from time to time for the status- I filed with Turbo Tax on January 17 and the IRS accepted my refund on the 18th- At first it was to be mailed out on January 30th- Then it was pushed to February 6th- This morning when I checked, “Where’s my Refund” I received this message:
Please read the following information related to your tax situation:
* Tax Topic 203, Failure to Pay Child Support, Federal Non-Tax and State Income Tax Obligations
Please Note:
Your refund may be reduced to pay a past due obligation such as child support, another federal agency debt, or state income tax. If this applies to you, the Financial Management Service, who issues IRS refunds, will send you a notice informing you of any offset they have made. The details of the debt are not provided to the IRS. Please do not call us to inquire about the details because we will not be able to answer your questions. Instead, direct any questions you have about the offset or debt to the agency identified on the notice.
I called the phone number provided (FMS can be reached at 800-304-3107) It was automated and asked me for my SS#- The automation said I had no offsets???
I am baffled- I don’t remember ever seeing this message before and I;m worried since my original date of mail out was January 30th and it was pushed to February 6th-
I don’t have children and I don’t owe any money that I know of- Wouldn’t FMS tell me if it was offset? I want to speak with a real person-
Is this a generic message that everyone receives? What scares me is that it says “Please read the following information related to your tax situation” –
I’m curious if anyone else has received this message???
Thanks
Open Question: How can this situation be resolved?
My friend lost her mother 6 months ago and her brother was appointed executor of the will.
My friend had resided with and was known as her mothers carer for 16 years due to her mother suffering Parkinson’s disease.
Mother had an outstanding debt with her bank to the value of 15 thousand pounds and the bank are insisting that if the debt isn’t paid off they will insist on the sale of the property to re-claim the debt.
The brother has decided this is the only option and has given my friend the opportunity to raise the funds to buy the property and cover half of the debt.Unfortunately due to her financial status she is unable to raise a loan or mortgage to cover the cost of the house and the debt.
Her brother is now insisting that she vacates the premises to enable the sale to go through as easily as possible without any conflicts of interest.
The problem then would be that due to her financial circumstances she would not be able to afford to rent a property prior to the house being sold. I have suggested that she lets her brother take her to court to make her move out as I feel that the judge may side with her due to her circumstances. I have also suggested that she could take on the debt as her own and add that to the debts that she has which are currently being managed by a debt management company.
If there is anybody that can offer sound sensible advise then i would be more than grateful.
Thank you in advance
Thank you for the answers so far and yes both partys have solicitors in place. The loan was a personal loan and wasn’t attatched to the house in anyway and its the banks decision to sieze the money from the estate, and at the moment they haven’t taken control but have made it clear that if the debt isn’t cleared soon then they will take the house to claim the money back. So at the minute its her brothers decision to sell the house and he isn’t budging an inch in his decision. Whether or not the money can be found to cover the debt. The option of my friend selling the house is a good one but for some reason the lawyers have said this isn’t an option as her brother is executor of the will not her.
The proceeds of the house are split equally after the debts cleared and after a 2 thousand pound legacy to the grandchild.
Catherine – There is no mortgage outstanding on the property as it was paid in full on the sale of a previous property and Mother had appointed the brother executor of the will as he was always best when it came to sorting financial affairs.
Open Question: 29 Years Old, No Good Jobs and I FEEL LIKE A LOSER! Do you?
Ok, so I’m a 29 year old, pretty good looking blonde haired, blue eyed, athletic female who just got married last year in August. I’m well educated and always seem to get people saying to me,
“You are so smart, why are you wasting your time doing this job?”
or
“You are so talented why can’t you find a good job and stick to it?”
So, I am well educated, but I always feel like I could keep learning,
I’ve gone to college and graduated in 2001 in Food Service Management, wasn’t really my passion but after my 2 first years in Culinary school I figured I’d finish in business instead of in the kitchen.
It didn’t get me far. I’ve been a waitress, cocktail waitress, banquet server, bartender, line cook, pastry chef, Food Service Supervisor, Operations Manager for several food outlets, and recenlty a Chef Manager. I ABSOLUTELY HATE the kitchen and the only part I’d stay in might be the Bakery, but only cuz I LOVE CHOCOLATE. However I don’t have the hardcore “Chocolatier” experience you see on the FOOD NETWORK, nor do I have any more funds to go back to school.
I did become a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2003, and now all I’m seeing is graduates getting out of massage school offering Happy Endings to make money and increase their competition.
So, that industry feels ruined to me.
So with the Economy in its current state, what is there to do?
I feel lost in my career, crazy in debt and without passion for any career.
I feel like a LOSER! Anyone feel the same?
Have any suggestions?
Are there CAREER PSYCHOLOGISTS? I haven’t found my University to be any help what so ever, which sucks, due to all the cash I paid them. What are the options?
Anyone know?
