Open Question: Please help me understand pathos in this paragraph?
Can someone help me with rhetorical analysis on the following paragraphs and also help edit them for me?
Hello,

I already did the homework, but I am asking your help to give me some feedback on what I need to change and hopefully make it better. Please let me know if there is anything wrong with grammar, comma splice or any other mistakes.

I have to answer this question: What kind of ethos do the authors project?
what in the text makes you say that?
how does that influence your trust in their argument?

1) Article: The Power of Green

Thomas Friedman projects different types of ethos. He earns readers’ respect because of his knowledge and authority on the subject. He seems very trustworthy and assures readers that they can trust him because of his background. His credibility also proves that he is a careful writer who cites sources and also uses people with expertise to support his arguments. Thomas Friedman shows that he is a person who cares about the effects of global warming on the world, so he wants America to take serious actions to reduce carbon emissions. Lastly, I think Friedman established himself as a reformer, a voice of change and someone who cares for humanity in general.

In the text, Friedman shows that he is an advocate of climate change. He argues that American needs to be more energy independent rather than relying on oils from the Middle East. He says that if America invests in alternative energy this will reduce the price of oil and will force authoritarian leaders out of power. As a result, this will enable America to bring stability and political reform into these regions.

2) Aticle: The Rise of the Rest

Fareed Zakariaa’s article projects different types of ethos than the Friedman’s article. Zacharia is an editor of Newsweek magazine and has solid backgrounds in American Foreign policy. He also has authority and credibility to write on this “economic pheonomenon” in the article, The Rise of the Rest. Zakaria persuades readers that he is knowledgeable and has enough expertise on such subject. He seems wise and trustworthy in presenting his argument. Like the other authors, he properly cited his sources to support his claims. At the first paragraph of this article, Zacharia seems to identify himself as someone who feels the same financial panic and insecurity just like other Americans. However, in the rest of the article he sends a different message that we should accept the end of American dominance and understand the needs for other nations to rise. At some level, this shows that he is more supportive of the rise in wealth of other nations rather the continual dominance of the USA. As a result, some readers will disagree with him because he shares different hopes and ideas for the future of America.

I agree with most of his claims, but I believe that America should continue to lead the world. For instance, I agree with him that Americans need to improve their foreign policy and work cohesively with other nations.

Thank you in advance.
